About Spelling

If you follow my blog or know me at all, you will soon realize that I spell certain words differently from what you are used to seeing on most web sites. This is because I am Canadian and I am a spelling NUT. It drives me crazy when things are misspelled. So naturally, it would rub me the wrong way to purposely leave out letters from words that I know need them. Canadian spelling is actually a blend of British and U.S.

REFLECT - Birthday Card

The common greeting to give someone on their natal day is "Happy Birthday". I wanted to say something different. Birthdays are often a time when we REFLECT on the past year. We may think about our accomplishments, joys, changes, and fun that have all taken place.

For my daughter Julia, this was a monumental year for many reasons, not the least of which was her wedding.

With this card, I wanted to say more than just "Happy Birthday". I wanted to demonstrate that I understand how special this year has been, and I wanted to give her a reminder to pause and... REFLECT.

We have so many reasons to be thankful. And as I was making this card, I fondly remembered the beautiful recipient. Thoughts of her during childhood, visions of her smile, her cheerful laugh, and so much more came to mind.

That's what I love about card making. Every card I make is uniquely designed with that special person in mind. This one is for my lovely daughter.

And oh yes... on the inside it does say "Happy Birthday".

About the Card
The card size is 5-1/2 x 5-1/2" with a black base.
I gave the mirror frame a distressed look by combining black and silver inks sponged and layered.

Cartridges used:  Forever Young, Storybook (for the envelope), and this one will surprise you - Life Is A Beach.

Tri-fold Wedding Card with Pop-Up

This is the wedding card I made for my daughter and her new hubby. If you're wondering how long this took to make... don't ask! It went on for days.

I wanted everything about the card to reflect their wedding; the colours and elegance had to befit the occasion. This was my first pop-up card so that involved a learning curve and a lot of patience, hence the time delay. But I think it was worth it. Don't you? Hmmm.

Cartridges used are all listed at the bottom of this entry.

The card stock is luminescent in blue and silver. The blue/green just happened to match the bridesmaid's dresses. The word "Forever" is cut from silver mirrored stock and shadowed in black. For the front, I punched the right edge and adhered a strip of the blue behind it.

The right-hand panel is done in silver stock with black and silver swooshes stamped and layered.

Inside, I used a wedding paper of soft silver roses on white.

The pop-up heart was cut from blue with an overlay of shiny silver.
This tri-fold card provides lots of space for a verse or poem.

I cut the Bride and Grooms' initials from white, shadowed in black.

This picture shows the pop-up heart in detail.

Flourish cut from sparkly black card stock. I just love this product and will be making a lot more embellishments with it. It will be wonderful for scrapbooking pages. It's quite stiff so I recommend lowering the cutting blade to 6 and set pressure to 5.

Cartridges Used:

Home Décor - "Forever"
Stretch Your Imagination - Bride & Groom and frame on front
Storybook -  J&B initials, the heart, and black flourish

Fantastic October Cartridge Releases!

The new October Cricut cartridges have been announced and they are spectacular.

Wrap It Up ~ Similar to Bags, Tags and Boxes (now discontinued) but with much more.
Paper Lace ~ Gorgeous lacy shapes, word art and lovely layers.
Sesame Street Seasons ~ Our favourite Sesame Street characters in seasonal activities. Super cute.

And FINALLY... a cartridge for music lovers... Quarter Note.
I have been waiting for three years for a music cartridge. I've written to the folks at Provocraft several times, asking them to do a music themed cartridge. I even offered to help! So I'll be excited to get this one in my hands and discover everything it can do.

Be sure to check out Obsessed with Scrapbooking where Joy has given complete descriptions and pics of these great new cartridges! You can leave a comment which makes you eligible to win a fun mini Christmas seasonal cartridge. Here's the link.

N.B.: I just found out that Quarter Note will be exclusively available at Michael's.

About Me

My photo
I guess you might call me a "right brainer", loving all things creative. Cardmaking is the perfect hobby for me as it allows me to be totally creative, combining design with poetry or verses I can compose myself. With Christmas being such an important occasion for cardmaking and crafting, I decided to create a separate blog just for Christmas projects. "It's All About Christmas" will host all my Christmas items. "Gracenotes For Today" will still feature items every other occasion of the year. I hope you'll drop by often and stay awhile!
