About Spelling

If you follow my blog or know me at all, you will soon realize that I spell certain words differently from what you are used to seeing on most web sites. This is because I am Canadian and I am a spelling NUT. It drives me crazy when things are misspelled. So naturally, it would rub me the wrong way to purposely leave out letters from words that I know need them. Canadian spelling is actually a blend of British and U.S.

Bookworm Graduate

Grade 8 Graduation Card for a young teen leaving elementary school. The poem inside, 'Done Grade 8' is by Grace Baxter. Card features a very smart Bookworm on a peek-through window that says, 'You Did It!'

YOU DID IT!

I love the bookworm graduate on this card for a grade 8 graduating student. He's not only cute... he's smart too!

For this card I used a base from Creative Cards, designing it to be 5.25h so it would fit into an A2 envelope.

When I first saw this window style frame, I knew immediately what I wanted to do with it. I welded the phrase "You Did It" across the top third of the open window.

This left the perfect amount of space to have the bookworm showing through the window.

I cut 2 white frames, sized to fit behind the window. One of the frames I used on the third panel as background for the bookworm. With the other, I printed my verse on top.

The front title is cut from silver CS, a little smaller than the welded title behind. This is easy to do with the Gypsy or CCR.

To finish the title, I added a crystal star to the centre of the large star.

Bookworm and Hat

The bookworm is two layers; dark green behind with antennae showing, front layer bright green with cutouts.

My Gypsy was not cutting properly so for the hat, I cut it freehand and made the tassel from silver cord, fastening it through the small hole in the middle of the cap and gluing it underneath. I added a silver rhinestone on top for sparkle and dimension. Isn't he cute!

Inside

For the verse, I wrote a little poem and prepared it in Word, sizing it to print perfectly on the white mat.

In keeping with the "book" theme, the right inside panel features the silhouette of the boy reading. Under the verse is an open book, which gave me the perfect place to sign my name.

Cartridges Used

Creative Cards - Card Base
Beyond Birthdays - "You Did It" phrase
Create a Critter - Bookworm
A Child's Year - Boy reading and open book
Alphalicious - 2013 on gift bag

Grad Gift Bag

Here is the matching graduation gift bag. I cut a large grad hat and highlighted the tassel with white gel pen. For the numbers, I cut shadows in black and the face number from white. Then I glittered the white layers with silver. A silver rhinestone in the top centre finishes it off.

About Me

My photo
I guess you might call me a "right brainer", loving all things creative. Cardmaking is the perfect hobby for me as it allows me to be totally creative, combining design with poetry or verses I can compose myself. With Christmas being such an important occasion for cardmaking and crafting, I decided to create a separate blog just for Christmas projects. "It's All About Christmas" will host all my Christmas items. "Gracenotes For Today" will still feature items every other occasion of the year. I hope you'll drop by often and stay awhile!
