About Spelling

If you follow my blog or know me at all, you will soon realize that I spell certain words differently from what you are used to seeing on most web sites. This is because I am Canadian and I am a spelling NUT. It drives me crazy when things are misspelled. So naturally, it would rub me the wrong way to purposely leave out letters from words that I know need them. Canadian spelling is actually a blend of British and U.S.

Fall Tissue Box Covers

Dressing Up A Staple

Have you ever noticed how boring boxes of tissues are? They never seem to come in the right colours for my décor. As with everything, if you can't find it... MAKE it!

These covers fit a 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 inch tissue box.

Kitties in the Pumpkin Patch (L) & Garden of Pumpkins (R)

Details

I created 2 different designs. Both have picket fences and grass but are different in the details

PANELS

The pic at left shows the two bases and their lids. Each base starts out with white cardstock.

The top row shows brown panels overlaid on the white.

The bottom row shows a tan background.

Both designs have cream top backgrounds.

FENCES

I designed my own picket fences using shapes from George & Basic Shapes cartridge.

A simpler way, of course, would be to have a cartridge with a good fence in this style (which I don't).

The pickets are altered tag shapes, combined with rectangles sized right. The Gypsy came in handy for this.

These fence pieces could be combined as shown at left. The top one would work well on a scrapbook page as a border.

Next came some shading with Tea Dye ink. (See Pumpkin Garden box for this detail.)

Kitties in the Pumpkin Patch

These playful kittens repeat around the box except one panel. The "front" could be any side.

I love the image of the cat staring up at the little bird atop the garden spade.

The cats are all from A Child's Year cartridge.

On this side, I placed a kitty in a jumping position. I had to smile to myself, remembering our beloved Kitty and how mischieviously she would inspect everything. This pose is so typical of something she would do.

Full Kitty Layout
The above pic shows all four panels before gluing the end tab in place. It was easier decorating the box when flat.

Pumpkins Galore

For this box cover, I made it all about the pumpkins.

You can clearly see the shading on the fences in this pic.

Grass

The grass cut is from Everyday Paper Dolls, plus my own addtional grass in the front.

This all-pumpkin style has 2 rows of grass. The "Kitty" style has 3 rows of grass.

Everyday Paper Dolls - grass
George & Basic Shapes - fences

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them for you.

About Me

My photo
I guess you might call me a "right brainer", loving all things creative. Cardmaking is the perfect hobby for me as it allows me to be totally creative, combining design with poetry or verses I can compose myself. With Christmas being such an important occasion for cardmaking and crafting, I decided to create a separate blog just for Christmas projects. "It's All About Christmas" will host all my Christmas items. "Gracenotes For Today" will still feature items every other occasion of the year. I hope you'll drop by often and stay awhile!
