About Spelling

If you follow my blog or know me at all, you will soon realize that I spell certain words differently from what you are used to seeing on most web sites. This is because I am Canadian and I am a spelling NUT. It drives me crazy when things are misspelled. So naturally, it would rub me the wrong way to purposely leave out letters from words that I know need them. Canadian spelling is actually a blend of British and U.S.

Because It's Christmas

As I write this post, Christmas Eve is exactly ONE month away. Decorations are everywhere, in malls and stores, lining the streets of our towns, and making their appearance in our homes as we set up Christmas trees and pull out the holly and mistletoe.

I've been thinking about how I could bring joy to YOU, my followers and visitors. Blogging is sometimes a lonely thing in that I never know who is enjoying what I put out. So, for the next few weeks, I want to post Christmas cards and tags that are on themes you particularly like!

Your Chance to be Heard

I want to know what your own personal favourite theme of Christmas is, and I will create something using your theme. Below are some suggestions. There probably won't be enough time to do all of these, so choose your fave and leave me a comment. I will choose the best-loved themes and work from those ideas.

  • Nativity, baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph, wisemen, shepherds
  • Snowmen
  • Santa
  • Winter scenes: country church, wintery homes
  • Sleighs, with or without horse
  • Nature: deer, pine trees, birds
  • Candles
  • Winter sports: skiing, skating, sledding
  • Holly, wreaths, garland, poinsettias
  • Children's themes: cute reindeer, snow people, carolers, snow days
  • Hominess: fireplace, windows, candles
  • Anything old-fashioned, vintage
  • Music: musical instruments and written music

I can't wait to hear your suggestions! I'll be watching my mailbox for your comments, so don't be shy.

Forever Young and Pretty

Version 2

Here is another Forever Young card with a heavy acrylic embossed window. Overall size of card is 5-3/4" x 5-3/4".

The unusual card size meant I had to make a custom envelope. I loved embellishing it with embossing on the outside which, when flipped open reveals the painted embossed flower.

I love using the heavy acrylic for embossing. It gives such strong body to the card. Nothing flimsy here!

Forever Young and Pretty

For the feminine woman who loves pink, flowers, birds and sparkle, this card knocked it out of the park on all points.

Two Fall birthdays in my family are for women I dearly love; my sister and my daughter. I made two different versions of the card to suit their individual personalities. Here is the first one.

window bday card with sparkle and shine, front

I've been making a lot of cards lately with various kinds of windows. For this large window style, the inside has to be just as pretty as the front.

Card size is 5-3/4" square.

The window is a sturdy acrylic that I embossed with birds and leaves (perfect for my gardener recipient).

The cardstock I used for the front frame and inside verse are both from DCWV Cherry Limade Stack. The selections in this book are all beautiful -- some have foil accents, some have glitter. Sparkly model on the front is cut from DCWV Glitzy Glitter, and it surely IS that! The hardest part was choosing one from the many great options!

I was inspired to make this card by Sheila, of She's a Sassy Lady blog. Sheila shared a tutorial two years ago and I loved what she did with it.  Link to Sheila's original post and video: Making a window card with a large window

Light shining through the "glass" reflects swirly branches and birds.

About Me

My photo
I guess you might call me a "right brainer", loving all things creative. Cardmaking is the perfect hobby for me as it allows me to be totally creative, combining design with poetry or verses I can compose myself. With Christmas being such an important occasion for cardmaking and crafting, I decided to create a separate blog just for Christmas projects. "It's All About Christmas" will host all my Christmas items. "Gracenotes For Today" will still feature items every other occasion of the year. I hope you'll drop by often and stay awhile!
