What's more fun than a summer birthday! The party is still a few weeks away but just in case you think I haven't been doing much lately, here is a project I'm working on.
This birthday banner uses the yummy colours from the Citrus Pack of cardstock. Aren't they gorgeous? I think I went a little overboard on this project as you'll see further on. Sure, the basic shapes look easy enough.
Thanks to my new Straight from the Nest cartridge, I used the cutest banner flag I could find. But from then on, things got a little crazy.
To make the individual flags sturdy enough for the outdoor picnic party, I layered each coloured flag on top of a sturdy white layer, then did the same for the cuffs which were a thin paper.
Tip: Use Scott's clear glue if you want "slide-ability" when layering things. This glue is fabulous and the double-ended tube makes it great for this project.
At left are some of the letters not yet adhered to their flags.
But wait. There's more!
Here's a sneak peak of a few completed flags. It's hard to get a good shot of them altogether, so I need to figure out how to lay them out and take more pictures.
The banner begins and ends with a cupcake flag. The cupcake bottom is glued flat on each end but raised in the middle with pop dots. After looking at all the various cupcakes available, I like the icing on this one best. I added some pink shading to the icing and of course, sparkly 'sugar' on top.
Details, Details, Details
This is where I get caught up... in the details. If you look closely at the candle on the cupcake, you'll see that it looks like a real flame. HAD to! And once I saw how cute these 2 candles looked, I made more to embellish some of the flags. Too much? I think not.Cartridges Used
Celebrations - cupcakes, candles, balloons, whistles, confetti, hats
Straight from the Nest - Banner flags, cuffs and sliders
Storybook - Alphabet letters and numbers
Quarter Note - font for "th" on the "30th" flag
I hope to post more pictures of the banner all tied together with pretty ribbon, and hanging from our picnic shelter. Check back around July 10th.
Update: September 12, 2011
I'm a little late in posting this picture. Here's a pic of the banner hanging in our picnic shelter. It was SO long, I couldn't get the whole banner in the shot. But you'll get the idea. Click on the pic for a closeup.

I LOVE the banner, so vibrant! Beautiful....simply BEAUTIFUL!
